Conflict Diamonds are primarily from Sierra Leone, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia and Ivory Coast. To put and end to the importing of these "blood diamonds" the United Nations and other groups have developed a certification procedure known as the “Kimberly Process”. This procedure requires each nation to certify that all rough diamond exports are produced through conflict free, legitimate mining and sales activity. The certificates state that the diamonds from these countries were produced, sold and exported through legitimate channels. For the past several years every diamond imported into the USA has been through the Kimberly Process and are conflict free stones.
